Your patient will pick up the prescription from the pharmacy and bring it to your office for safe keeping. It must be stored in a refrigerator(4-8degrees) but not frozen.
You will receive 1 or 2 boxes of allergy serum. Each box contains 4vials.
Vial #1-1:1000(lowest concentration) white top
Vial #2-1:100 green top
Vial #3-1:10 yellow top
Vial #4-1:1(highest concentration/maintenance vial) red top
Follow the dosage schedule provided in the box. Each box should be treated as its own prescription.
If the patient has a two box prescription, then they will receive two shots on each visit, one injection from each box. An injection will be administered in the right arm and the other in the left.
There are two phases to immunotherapy injections.
A) Build up phase which are weekly injections (approximately 7months or 28 weeks)
B) Maintenance phase which are once monthly injections (3-5 years)
During the build up phase begin with the weakest concentration vial#1(white). Once the maximum dose of the white vial has been reached(0.5ml) then advance to the next vial#2(green). Continue with weekly injections with the green vial until the maximum dose has again been achieved (0.5ml). Then advance to vial#3(yellow) continuing the weekly injections until reaching the maximum dose(0.5ml). Then advance to the final strongest concentration vial #4(red) continue with the weekly injections until reaching the maximum dose of 0.5ml. Once this dose has been reached we then transition to the maintenance phase with once monthly injections of 0.5ml from the red vial for 3 to 5 years.
